In 1990, Capcom released the Disney's Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers platform video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game offered both single player and cooperative modes, and allowed players to choose which levels to access via a map that gave them access to various locations in the city. Each individual stage was set-up as a side-scrolling action game where Chip and Dale can walk, jump, duck, and pick up various objects to throw at enemies and bosses. In the game, the Rangers must stop another of Fat Cat's schemes, only to have his kidnapping of Gadget send Chip and Dale to the rescue.

Contra, released as Gryzor in Europe and Oceania, is an arcade game released in 1987 by the Konami corporation. The player controls a commando who battles waves of enemies including humans, machines, mutants and aliens to reach his ultimate goal. Much of the game's popularity came from its two-player simultaneous gameplay, which was an uncommon feature in video games at the time of Contra's release. While successful in the arcades, the game became and remained widely popular and remembered when it was ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988. Contra was voted #1 by gaming website IGN.com as being the "Toughest Game to Beat".

In the game Scrooge McDuck has to find Fergus McDuck's lost treasure. This is done by finding all seven of map pieces, which are in various parts of the world. Scrooge travels to Niagara Falls, the Bermuda Triangle, Mu, Egypt and Scotland. Each of these places contains one of the map pieces and a boss. After all five bosses are defeated, whether the lost treasure is recovered or not, Webby is kidnapped by Flintheart Glomgold, prompting a boss fight that ends the game.
